CH2M HILL Welcomes City Leaders to Hometown for NLC Event

Sustainable solutions on display at Congress of Cities in Denver Nov. 30-Dec. 4

DENVER, Colo., Dec. 1, 2010 — CH2M HILL is helping welcome more than 4,000 city leaders from across the country and their guests to its hometown of Denver for the National League of Cities’ 2010 Congress of Cities & Exposition Nov. 30-Dec. 4 at the Colorado Convention Center.

The NLC annual event is designed to educate elected officials and other city leaders while providing tangible solutions to the myriad challenges they face. The program features nationally known speakers such as former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush along with numerous workshop sessions including a series of mobile workshops that offer a glimpse of some of the Denver area’s best practices.

With its global headquarters located just south of the city, CH2M HILL will have a significant presence at the conference, continuing more than 20 years’ involvement with the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments. The company is featuring the wide range of solutions it offers to local governments with particular emphasis on sustainable city initiatives in areas such as water, transportation, and operations and maintenance.

Named a leader in sustainable engineering by the independent analyst firm Verdantix, CH2M HILL highlights this important corporate value with a booth display that incorporates numerous green features including use of recycled (and recyclable) materials, LED lighting and low VOC inks. Visitors can stop by Booth 801in the exhibit hall to see the display first-hand and meet with company representatives.

In addition, the company’s professional expertise is on display in several conference sessions.

On Wednesday, Dec. 1, Engineer Danielle Elkins gives a presentation on sustainable transportation initiatives at the Transportation Infrastructure and Services Policy and Advocacy Committee meeting (1:30-4:30 p.m., Room 503). Elkins will discuss various rating systems CH2M HILL has developed including Greenroads, created in partnership with the University of Washington, which measures the sustainability of roadways, enabling decision-makers, agencies, consultants, and contractors to make informed design and construction decisions.

John Madia, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, participates in a panel discussion of “People-Based Economic Development” on Friday, Dec. 3 (11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Korbel 2C). Here panelists talk about how local officials can support strategic direction for workforce development, ensuring worker skills and education meet business needs.

Finding additional revenues while avoiding tax or fee increases is the theme of Friday’s Solutions Track session “Enhancing Revenue in Your City” (noon-12:45 p.m., Solutions Track Theater B, Room 405). Don Howell, Municipal Services Director, and Susan Mays, Marketing and Communications Director, share ways communities are discovering – and recovering – uncollected revenues.

CH2M HILL is also a sponsor of NLC TV, the organization’s Internet-based TV channel, which will broadcast highlights and presentations throughout the conference.
