Middle East and North Africa

CH2M HILL operates in all major markets in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Qatar, Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Emphasizing water, wastewater, power, energy, chemicals, transportation, renewable energy, nuclear, manufacturing, environmental management, and industrial and government facilities services, our goal is to create lasting value for our clients.

CH2M HILL also provides a spectrum of services to our clients, including program management, consultancy, engineering, procurement, construction management, operations and maintenance, facility and utility management, and master planning.

Since 1977, after an urban development project was started in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, the firm's Middle Eastern presence continued to grow. Currently, there are nine office locations in this region, with more than 750 staff. By uniting strong local relationships, global resources and alliances, and cost-effective technologies, CH2M HILL has been delivering successful and sustainable projects in this region for more than 30 years.

CH2M HILL MENA Timeline

1977

CH2M HILL commences an urban development project in Dammam, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

1977-2004

CH2M HILL primarily works in Egypt, Jordan, West Bank, and United Arab Emirates. The projects delivered are primarily US-funded civil infrastructure works, US military facility developments and energy engineering / consulting projects.

2004

Increased focus in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

2005

Major growth in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and UAE.

CH2M HILL wins first sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) engineer-procure-construct project.

2006

CH2M HILL wins two more SWRO projects in Sharjah, UAE.

Developed a delivery center in Dubai to perform engineering, procurement, and construction management tasks. Currently, this center has more than 40 employees.

2007

CH2M HILL acquired VECO Engineering, enabling a strong entry into a booming oil & gas market in the Middle East and the formation of a new Energy and Chemicals business group. The new business group primarily delivers PMC, FEED, and selected EPC projects in the UAE and surrounding countries in the Gulf.

CH2M HILL commences several major program management opportunities in Abu Dhabi including Masdar City, Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP), Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort, and Abu Dhabi Capital District.

2009

CH2M HILL launches a joint venture in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with The Olayan Group, forming CH2M OLAYAN. The company’s focus is to meet the growing public and private infrastructure needs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Haramain High Speed Rail Project
Project management support (sub-consultant) on behalf of Saudi Railways Organization. A 450-km rail link between Mecca and Madinah. (Mecca, Madinah and Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme
Wastewater infrastructure upgrade, including a 45-km tunnel in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plants
Design, supply, installation, and commissioning of three seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plants in Sharjah, UAE.
General Organization for Sanitary Drainage
Consultancy and institutional development services in Cairo, Egypt.
Mishref Pump Station
Assessment, evaluation and rehabilitation planning operation and maintenance in Mishref, Kuwait.
Masdar City
A key major delivery partner for Masdar. CH2M HILL will assist in developing a world-class standard for researching, piloting, and implementing integrated sustainable technologies. (Abu Dhabi, UAE)

Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort
Program Management of a mixed use development on approximately 2,220 acres in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.
Abu Dhabi Capital District
Abu Dhabi Capital District infrastructure project management (sub-consultancy) focusing on sustainable supply chain management and technology integration. (Abu Dhabi, UAE)
Asab Gas Development
PMC services for EPC phase of Asab Gas Development. (Abu Dhabi, UAE)
BABCO Waste Water Treatment Project
Treatment of industrial wastewater that is generated by the oil refinery. Bahrain.
Presidency of Meteorology and Environmental Protection (PME)
